“Green Scrap Metal Thailand 2023: Change for the Better” National Seminar

Department of Primary Industries and Mines (DPIM) in cooperation with United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and the related agencies have collaborated to officially launch the Third Annual Event of “Green Scrap Metal Thailand 2023: Change for the Better” on Thursday 23 February 2023 at The Sukosol Hotel, Bangkok. Adapting to the New Normal, the event was held in a form of hybrid event (virtual and physical participation) consists of participants from both public and private sectors, press media, educational institutes. With great feedback from the event, 209 participants have joined the events onsite and 67 viewers from Zoom conference participated.

The activities included the Presentation of project progress, Stakeholder promotion activities, Certificate Ceremony for training participants who has the highest score from the training under NIDA training program of 19 modules, Panel discussion on the topic “Change for the Better in Action” with honorable speakers from public and private sectors related to metal scrap supply; namely,

-Dr. Tarnkamol Tarvornpanich, Senior Professional Metallurgical Engineer, DPIM

-Prof. Dr.Siwatt Pongpiachan, School of Social & Environmental Development, National Institute of Development Administration (NIDA)

-Ms. Panitchanan Chuen-arom, HR & GA Manager, Daiki Aluminium Industry (Thailand) Co., Ltd.

-Mr. Kittisak Latthikul, Factory Manager, Panyaraksa Co., Ltd.

-Mr.Piched Puttaboriwarn, Senior Department Manager – Steel Making Plant - Tata Steel Manufacturing (Thailand) Public Co., Ltd. (Rayong Plant)

Moderated by Mr. Wirote Rotewatanachai, President of Iron and Steel Institute of Thailand (ISIT)

and the Photo contest under the theme “Greening the scrap metal for the Better Changes” in the final round. The Winner and the Popular Vote prizes are the work under the photo title “Treasures in a Pile of Steel” by Mr. Padyot Wisetsingh from Pohchang College, Rajamangala University of Technology Rattanakosin.

-The first runner-up prize was the photo titled “Please Recycle” by Mr. Sarawut Sathientheerapap from Rangsit University.

The 2nd runner up prize was the photo titled “Pare for Change” by STELLA-TALES team from Darunsikkhalai School of Innovation Learning, King Mongkut's University of Technology Thonburi

-The Honorable mention prizes are the photo titled “Steel at the school backyard” by Ms. Pornphat Wattanaroj from Suan Lumpini School and the photo titled “Changing the World with Our Hands” by Mr. Phobtham Nusitram from Watsabua School.

There were also 12 booth exhibitions from relevant agencies from both government and private sectors and educational institutions included in the exhibition area as followed;

• “Smelter Clinic” for consultation on the industrial field

• Database of current Thai scrap metal supply chain resulted from Post survey.

• Training program on BAT/BEP implementation in scrap metal supply chain management.

• Environmental loan banking services
