Study Tour on BAT/BEP Application in Japan

Dr. Aditat Vasinonta, the Deputy-Director General, Office of Industrial Economics, Ministry of Industry, acted as the Chair of the Project Steering Committee (PSC) led a study tour on the BAT/BEP Application in Japan between 7 -11 November 2022 to visit scrap metal recycling plants and downstream metal industry for observing the technology and implementation on how to reduce U- POPs releases. The study tour delgates consists of the Technical Working Group (TWG) from the relevant agencies which are the Ministry of Industry, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MNRE) and UNIDO with Dr. Kittiphan Bangyikhan, the Ministry Counselor (Industrial Department) Overseas Industrial Advisory Office in Tokyo who welcomed the delegates and facilitated the delegates throughout the visit.

The study visit schedule are as followed;

7 November 2022

  • The delegates meet the mayor and the officials of Kitakyushu City. Kitakyushu City, located in Fukuoka which is located on the southern island of Kyushu.
  • Kitakyushu Eco-Town is the largest of the 26 Ecotowns in Japan.
  • Nishinihon Kaden Recycle Corporation (NKRC) is an electronics recycling company in Japan.

8 November 2022

  • Nissan Motor Kyushu, which began producing cars in 1975.
  • Keiaisha Group is an auto parts dismantling company which has a subsidiary in Thailand named KI-Ecotech Co., Ltd.
  • Mitsubishi Material is an electric vehicle battery recycling company.

9 November 2022

  • Nippon Steel, located in the Yawata and began its steel manufacturing business in 1918.

10 November 2022

  • MARC Corporation, an auto parts dismantling and recycling company which is located in Mie.
  • Chubu Eco Technology Corporation (CETEC) established and began dismantling electrical appliances such as refrigerators, air conditioners and compressors, televisions, and washing machines in 2005.

11 November 2022

  • The Institute of Environmental Ecology is located in Shizuoka City. It is part of IDEA Consultants Inc. which provides advice on national infrastructure, environment, disaster management and other utilities.

All agencies in Japan have warmly welcomed the delegates in the study tour and kindly exchanged knowledge and experience in various fields throughout throughout visit.
