On Thursday 25 February 2021, the Green Scrap Metal Thailand Project together with the Department of Primary Industries and Mines United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and the Faculty of Social and Environmental Development, The National Institute of Development Administration (NIDA) organized a seminar "Recycle Well, No U-POPs" at Kamolthip Meeting Room 3, 2nd Floor, The Sukosol Hotel, Bangkok, which honored has Mr. Adithatawat Sinon, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Primary Industries and Mines and the Chairperson Project Committee as the event opening president.

 


The activities in the event are divided into morning and afternoon sessions. In the meeting room, in the morning is a presentation of a summary of the results of the project, multidimensional survey and database of supply chain stakeholders of the scrap metal recycling industry. In addition, comments on the framework for compliance and measures for best technical guidelines and best environmental practices (BAT / BEP) to be used in the scrap metal recycling industry throughout the supply chain to reduce U-POPs of persistent pollutants from waste separation centers, or recycling and foundry establishments, 2021-2030.



There was also a panel discussion on the role of BAT / BEP in helping to improve air quality for Thailand by Prof. Dr. Siwat Pong Piachan, Prof. Dr. Ronabanjab Apiratikul, MD. Nawarat Apirakkittikul, MD. Dr. Kittiphan Bangyikhan, hosted by Khun Pakanan Sangkhumthanasom and Mr. Thanakarn Thanakiatpinyo.

 


And activities in the afternoon It is an introductory lecture on training courses for subjects 1-5 which are:

Module: 1 Unintentional Release of Persistent Pollutants (U-POPs)

Module: 2 Policy, Law and Regulations

Module: 3 Scrap metal recycling industry and the liberation of U-POPs

Module: 4 Dealing with U-POPs in the Scrap Metal Recycling Industry

Module: 5 Techniques of sampling and analysis of U-POPs



There is also an environmental short film screening from the project. "The world is sick, we must change" as well, with the aim of allowing the meeting attendees to view and exchange ideas from representatives of the new generation who care about the environment led by Khun Chulajak Chakrapong (Hugo), famous singer and actor, and Khun Mariya Poonlertlarb, Miss Universe Thailand 2017, famous actress and model, along with Prof. Dr. Siwat Phongphi Monday Director of the Center for Disaster Prevention and Management And environmental experts which having Khun Simona Meesaiyat as the moderator.

 


As for the activities outside of the meeting room, there are exhibitions such as showing prototype models for scrap metal recycling with good environmental management. More than 20 training courses on scrap metal management and technology applied to reduce environmental impact, multidimensional database presentation of scrap metal recycling supply chain, etc.





The even has received a lot of attention and feedback from the press and general publics. More than 150 people attended the event at the conference room and more than 250 people interested and joined online via Zoom and Facebook Live
