On 31 March - 1 April 2021, the project in collaboration with the Department of Primary Industries and Mines (DPIM), United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and the Center of Excellence in Hazardous Substances and Waste Management (HSM) at Chulalongkorn University under the support of the Global Environment Fund (GEF) held 3 training modules for the recycling associations and SMEs including those who is interested from industry associations and operators of industrial facilities. The trainings were held in hybrid format in both onsite and online with face-to-face training program at the Industry Transformation Center (ITC) for Research and Development of Recycling Technology, Department of Primary Industries and Mines (DPIM)and the online training via ZOOM programEach module was provided information as seen below;Module 8: Source, formation, toxicity and emissions of U-POPs in RA&amp;SMEs• Source of U-POPs released in the recycling associations and SMEs• The U-POPs cycle in the environment• U-POPs release from the recycling associations and SMEs• Exposure route and toxicity of U-POPs to human health• Heavy metals and hazardous in electronic waste• How to prevent exposure to U-POPsModule 9: BAT/BEP strategies on scrap metal management; handling, collection, storage, and pre-treatment• What is BAT/BEP?• BAT/BEP measures on handling, collection, storage of the scrap metal• Sorting types of waste• How to storage hazardous wasteModule 10: Case study of BAT/BEP (pre-treatment) implementation for the recycling associations and SMEs – Case study• BAT/BEP technology to manage scrap metal before smelting process• Cast study on the implementation of BAT/BEP The objectives of the training are to allow participants to gain the knowledge of U-POPs, the health and environmental effects from dioxins and furans, the implementation of Best Available Techniques (BAT) and Best Environmental Practices (BEP) which will help reduce U-POPs and to be able to further apply the knowledge gained in practice effectively.
